Growing the Make Orwell Fiction Again Family
Dear Readers:
Two years ago, on Sept. 8, 2021, I posted my first blog post, called Vaccines & Us. My latest, on Sept 13, 2023, was titled When Politics Corrupts Science, We All Suffer.
In between were columns about They/Them Come for Christians, Armed to Kill, a column called Prince Harry is No Damar Hamlin, one called Freedom is Contagious: Truckers Rule, another on Joe The No Empathy President. There was one on Libs Are the Fascists, For Castrating Our Children, another on Black Babies & the Left’s Killing Machine, still another called Blood Clots and A Spike in Deaths, and finally a piece called Jill Biden’s Blind Spot — asking how the First Lady could have allowed her husband — frail, senile and so addled he asked for a photo with pro-Trump children at the White House — to run for the presidency. Maybe I should write that one again.
There was also a post about my beloved partner of 20 years, Jeffrey Glazer — handsome, athletically talented and humble, kind and always seeing life’s glass as half full. The piece chronicles his recent fight for life against the ravages of leukemia, and his steel bravery in overcoming a spinal cord injury 25 years ago, without ever viewing himself as a victim. Your warm response to A Man of Dignity in a World Gone Mad — this piece netted the highest viewership of any of my posts, with 1.19K — and your messages of condolence, remain a great comfort. Today marks three months since his passing. I will miss him always.
For my work at Make Orwell Fiction Again, I was banned by LinkedIn and censored by Facebook. To my delight, the readership kept growing, from zero to nearly 300.
Along the way, there was the unexpected pledge by three people to pay money for my work. One wrote: “Johanna, I love your writing and look forward to your upcoming posts. You certainly shed light on important topics, and I learn something new each time you populate my inbox.” I call these three my founding mothers & father.
Taking a cue from them, I now ask for your support.
Beginning this week, free subscribers will see the top of each post before deciding whether to subscribe.
Paid subscribers can pay $8 a month or $80 a year, or $240 to become a founding member. All paid subscriptions will entitle readers to:
A weekly blog post, likely on Wednesdays
Opportunity to join a new Chats feature for readers to debate issues of the day
Audio version of my posts — read by me —for those who prefer to listen rather than read.
For the next year, monthly excerpts from my newest book, The Concert, a WW2 novel based on a true story of musicians who banded together to defy Hitler’s invasion. You can also buy the book here. Audio book coming shortly.
Thank you for taking the journey with me so far. Amid the struggle to rescue our country, I hope we can draw strength from each other for years to come.
