Amen! If anyone in this country is stoking violence it is the Left and their jack-booted thugs: The FBI; DOJ; Anti-fa and the ignorant young people indoctrinated in our colleges and universities. It's time to stand up for America and the Constitution!

Charlie, thank you for your question. I'm not an advocate of government controlling my body -- that's why I opposed vaccine mandates. But in the case of abortion, there are two bodies at issue. I'm not an absolutist -- I believe a mother should have abortion rights in the first trimester, as Roe envisioned. After that, when a fetus can feel pain, and later when it is viable, then we all have an interest, as a society, in preventing murder. The problem with Roe is that it was a legislative solution that pretended to be based on a constitutional right to privacy. As Ruth Bader Ginsburg warned, that was always a shaky ground. And for 50 years -- I think at least 20 of those years Dems had a majority in the H, S & WH -- Congress could have codified Roe. They never did. As for my earlier scholarship on suffrage, there is nothing to renounce. In both my books (Gilded Suffragists & And Yet They Persisted) I chronicled women who fought for the right to vote that was encoded in the words, "All Men Are Created Equal." Unlike Roe's fanciful declaration of the right to privacy, the right to equality is well encoded in our foundational principles. In fact, women in New Jersey voted from 1776 to 1807, when men decided to repeal that right. And thank you for reminding me that unlike their British counterparts, American suffrage activists never used violent tactics. All of them -- black, white, militant, mainstream -- all of them understood that to win the public square, persuasion works better than mob violence.

"It is as if they have forgotten the wrenching debates we as a nation have had over the last two years, about whether the government can mandate what medicines we put in our body, about whether only women can become pregnant. Hypocrisy thy name is liberal."

Yes, because getting a vaccine during a public health crisis is exactly like being forced to carry a fetus to term. The attendant permanent, dramatic, and irreversible emotional and physical scars and changes are exactly the same. Such a smart comparison.

Stupidity thy name is conservative.

Johanna

It’s interesting discover that for you the long struggle of women for their rights really only applies to middle class women and up.

An example would be Little Susie calling her conservative Daddy War Bucks from college crying that she’s pregnant.

Daddy calms her down with the assurance to keep her pregnancy on the DL.

He immediately buys little Susie a plane ticket to the nearest Blue state abortion clinic.

But if you’re a poor newly pregnant woman stuck in Alabama, women’s rights don’t apply to you.

You’re still just government Chattel.

Will your new found positive views on government control over women’s bodies cause you to go back and do any edits on previous suffragettes publications??

"President Biden lied when he said the decision makes the US 'an outlier among developed nations.' Most Euro countries allow abortion up to no more than 15 weeks."

Wrong. Most Euro countries have abortion-on-demand, thanks to a robust system of cutoff date exceptions, exceptions that are regularly sought and regularly granted, including for the mental health of the mother.

President Biden told the truth. As usual, Republicans are either lying or ignorant and uninformed.

"And yet, the Democrats are doing everything they can to demagogue the issue."

Translation: conservatives got what they wanted, imposing their extremist forced birth religious views on an unwilling public. Now they are mad that Democrats are pointing out that the vast majority of Americans did not want Roe overturned and abortion criminalized, and do not agree with the Republican Party's forced birth extremism, which now includes pushing for a nationwide abortion ban.

Why are Republicans scared of their own unpopular abortion position?

"There is nothing in Dobbs v Jackson preventing women from getting abortions. The decision merely returns the issue to the states..."

Forced birth extremists and prominent Republican politicians like Mike Pence are already calling for a nationwide abortion ban. Republican senators and congressmen are pledging to introduce such a ban should Republicans win control.

People like Johanna Neuman want to ignore and hide this, because they know Americans do not share the right's forced birth extremism.

"Or that in the last 50 years since Roe was wrongly decided — giving women a right to an abortion as a matter of privacy that is nowhere in the Constitution — an estimated 20 million black babies have been killed, at a far higher rate than their white counterparts."

Embryos are not babies. The babies are the kids being starved by Republicans cutting food stamps, being neglected by Republicans blocking paid family leave, and being slaughtered in schools thanks to Republican fealty to the corporate gun lobby.

Privacy is inherent to freedom and liberty, described by future Justice Louis Brandeis in the late 19th century as "the right to be let alone." The right to privacy, guaranteed by the 4th, 9th, and 14th Amendments, has been affirmed many times by justices across the ideological spectrum.

Good luck to Republicans running on telling Americans they have no right to privacy. Please proceed, Democrats thank you.

"It is hard not to conclude that left-wing activists unleash violence because they want to frighten us into keeping them in power."

Reality: A forced birth extremist drove a truck into a crowd of pro-choice protestors this week. Last week, 31 Proud Boys Republicans were arrested for plotting a terror attack on a gay Pride event in Idaho -- embers of one of the same conservative groups that violently stormed Capitol on Jan 6 to assassinate politicians based on Trump's sore loser election lies.

“The black population today would be double if it were not for Planned Parenthood.”

Translation: privileged white woman who wishes to enslave black women with forced birth or else kill black women with unsafe, back alley abortions angry about black women making the free choice to terminate pregnancies.

I know it's hard for you Rethuglikkklan racists to understand that black people have free will. Unsurprising, since conservatives have made it clear they don't think Americans have a right to freedom and privacy.
