Who Is Running Our Country?
The world, quite literally, is on fire.
By all accounts, Hezbollah, an Iranian proxy, is preparing a massive assault on Israel. How do we know? They evacuated HQ in Beirut, in anticipation of Israeli retaliation. The Ukrainians invaded Russian territory in Kursk, which has a nuclear plant, escalating that conflict. And China is licking its chops, waiting for World War III so it can sneak into Taiwan, where one-third of all computer chips are made, and take over.
After spending a long weekend at the beach, Joe Biden returned to the White House today, ditching reporters’ questions by walking around them on the White House lawn before entering the building. He was there for a Situation Room meet on the Mideast. Presumably Pentagon officials will brief him on what they’ve already done to mobilize.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi disclosed over the weekend that she wasn’t sure who wrote the letter in which Biden withdrew from the presidential election campaign. “It didn’t sound like Joe Biden to me.” This is all but an admission from Pelosi, who still controls the party’s purse strings, that she pushed Joe out, that others wrote the letter for him and either got him to sign it or signed it for him and posted it on X before he could object. Biden told CBS that he wanted to stay in, that the race with Trump was neck and neck, “it was going to come down to the wire,” but that down-ballot Dem candidates for Senate and House did not want him atop the ticket. That’s why critics call the Great Swap of Harris for Biden a coup. It was.
Then of course Biden demagogued Trump, calling him, without citing specifics, an existential threat to democracy. It is the Dems of course who are are the insurrectionists — plotting to prevent Trump from taking office should him win — see Jamie Raskin here. The ugly rhetoric — which likely inspired a crazed gunman to take a shot at Trump’s head — is meant to frighten people into voting for Harris.
She is still the vice president of the United States, but Harris is not going anywhere near the White House. Even though she was responsible for the disastrous Biden-Harris policy at the border, and even though she cast the tie vote on trillion-dollar spending bills that spiked inflation, she is being portrayed as a victim of Joe’s policies.
This is, quite simply, a distortion of history and a dereliction of duty. She saw his cognitive decline for years, and did nothing but hide it. She watched as he wandered off stages and stuttered for answers, and did not call a Cabinet meeting to discuss invoking Amendment 25, which allows for replacing an incapacitated president.
But if neither Joe nor Kamala is not really running the country, who is?
Former Speaker Kevin McCarthy sspeculated recently that the old Obama team, widely assumed to be steering Biden’s White House, is instead running the Harris-Walz campaign. “You’re getting the Obamas shifting from running the White House to now running this campaign, he said.
Former Obama AG Eric Holder vetted Harris’ VP picks. David Plouffe, Obama’s 2008 campaign manager, is now a senior Harris aide. Stephanie Cutter, deputy campaign manager for Obama’s 2012 re-election, is Harris senior adviser for strategy messaging. Dem adviser Jennifer Palmieri is now senior adviser to Harris’ husband, Doug Emhoff. Pretty impressive for Harris, who as VP had the highest staff turnover in history.
The energy may have left 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. But the world will not wait six months for American to fill its leadership vacuum. Bad actors are even now sharpening their weapons to take advantage of our void at the top.
For Dems it’s a zero-sum game. They put power over country.
Whatever it takes to hold on to power — a coup that topples a sitting president without his consent, or even his signature, a media propaganda campaign that clears Harris of any responsibility for failed policies, a void that allows our foreign enemies to take advantage, a fear-mongering campaign against Trump, who merely wants to close the border, restore the economy and stop men from competing in women’s sports— then that’s what they will do. With pleasure.

Yes I saw a quip the other day that Elon, having discovered that Starmer was censoring speech, was gearing up buy the UK, much as he had Twitter. Alas, were it but that easy. We are not much better off here but all we can do is, as Trump famously said, Fight! Fight! Fight! Good luck to you too. Johanna
Bravo! Spot on.
Back here in UK, we face a new Labour Party regime that plans to ban free speech! Thankfully, Elon is on our side, piling public insults and taunts on our our Leader, Starmer. We, the people, are no longer allowed to do that. Best of luck! Ross
