Trump to Dems: What Is Wrong With You?
It’s a good question, really, and it may prove the pivot point in our national history.
Will we avoid the civil war that Democrats are fomenting when, in their sanctuary spaces, they defy immigration and other federal laws? Or will we join President Trump in embracing the patriotism and Christian values that underpinned our founding 250 years ago?
As WH Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt pointed out, Dems in Congress repeatedly refused to stand during the State of the Union address. “The first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” he said, asking all who agreed with that core principle of governance to stand. No Dem did.
They also refused to stand or applaud for voter ID laws, the lowest murder rate since 1900, keeping violent criminals locked up, protecting parental rights, stopping fraud in Minnesota and elsewhere, Angel families, tax-relief, like no-tax-on-tips, overtime and Social Security benefits, and of course, the most secure border in history.
Add these to the list of hard-to-fathom policies that Dems now find themselves defending: men in women’s sports, transgender mutilations by medical “professionals,” higher taxes, abortion on demand through the ninth month. Many Dems sat when the gold-medal US men’s hockey team walked into the chamber. So I guess we’ll have to add another item, dissing Americans who win at the Olympics. Oh, and I noticed this morning PA Gov Josh Shapiro announced he is suing HHS for eliminating some childhood vaccines. So maybe add mercury poisoning the children.
As podcaster Link Lauren said afterward, “The State of the Union unmasked the Left for who they really are. They have a true disdain for our country. But we will never apologize for our patriotism.” To which I say, Amen.
Polls warn that Republicans could lose the House in the midterm elections this fall. Nate Silver’s average (as of Feb 25, 2026): Democrats +5.4. RealClearPolling average: Democrats +4.4 (based on polls from late Jan to late Feb 2026).
Maybe they are real, maybe fake. Certainly they are early. But in the face of the president’s epic speech, even the NYT admitted that Trump “boxed in the Dems.”
In response, Dems seem to have embraced radical socialist policies and theater — check out the “alternative” Dem State of the Union sponsored by moveon.org, in which an Oregon lawmaker spoke in front of the Portland Frogs.
Recently I attended a seminar for 800 people put on by Hillsdale College, a Christian college based in Michigan that insists on a classical education for students. At each meal, a student led a prayer, and then asked us all to rise to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. It felt inspiring, and uplifting, to experience those moments with Americans of shared values. And that’s a little how the State of the Union felt too.
Please check out my new book, Trump’s Superpower, in which I bring the founding fathers — and one founding mother — down from heaven to celebrate our 250th birthday. They have amusing encounters with 21st Century Americans and a running debate about whether this is the America they meant to create.
Or, as George Washington might say,

The choice before this nation couldn't have been framed any better than the two parties' responses during and after President Trump's speech.
Will there be an audiobook? Pleeze!
