During the carnage committed by Hamas against Israel on October 7, some female victims were shot in the vagina and the breasts. Others were raped repeatedly, so badly their pelvises were broken. Many died with their faces twisted in anguish.
The evidence is overwhelming. One morgue worker who prepared their bodies for burial told NBC News it looked like “a systematic attempt at genital mutilation.” Captured Hamas documents included one instructing Arab-speaking terrorists how to say “Take off your pants” in Hebrew. There were also photos of the victims’ shattered bodies, eyewitness accounts of women raped in front of their children and then killed, and testimony from many first responders.
But left-wing feminists — who once rallied to chants of “Believe Women” — have been largely silent, along with their allies in the pro-Hamas Democrat Party. As Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) said Sunday, the sexual violence against Israeli women by Hamas should not be turned into “hierarchies of oppressions.” A shocked CNN anchor Dana Bash repeated the question. Jayapal said, “I think we have to be balanced about bringing in the outrages against Palestinians. 15,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli air strikes, three quarters of whom are women and children.”
No real outrage on behalf of Israeli victims, just “balance” so no one will blame Palestinians. Bill Cosby or Harvey Weinstein would welcome that kind of hypocrisy.
Also hypocritical were the college presidents who appeared before Congress from UPenn, MIT and Harvard. Under grilling from Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), they hid behind the legalese of “context” to explain why the chants heard so loudly and frighteningly on their campuses — “Intifada Revolution” and “From the River to the Sea” — might not be violations of their schools’ code of conduct against hate speech.
MIT President Sally Kornbluth said calling for “intifada” could be “antisemitic depending on the context, when calling for the elimination of the Jewish people.”
The dilemma for these college presidents is that many of their students, alumni and donors are Jewish, while the current student bodies are not only anti-Semitic and anti-Israel but anti-white. For decades, university leftists have been pushing a Critical Race Theory that insists whites are always oppressors and people of color always oppressed. This is not good for the cause of either. Now their indoctrinated proteges are on the march, spewing hatred and demonstrating enormous ignorance.
Israel is a democracy, one that welcomes gays, has legalized abortion and appoints women to military positions. These are the policies of the Left. But if any of these left-wing campus protestors were to show up in Gaza, which is run by Hamas, they would quickly learn that they are rooting for terrorists trained to maim.
Clearly, the issue is dividing Democrats.
Nothing demonstrates the party’s dilemma better than Debbie Dingell.
The name Dingell is political gold in Michigan. Rep. Debbie Dingell has represented Michigan’s 12th district seat since 2015, taking office from her husband John Dingell, who holds the record as the longest-serving member of Congress in US history (1955-2015). And John Dingell took over the seat from his father, who held the office from 1933 to 1955. So for almost a century, this family has waved Dearborn’s banner. But now, Dearborn is majority Arab American, and residents are warning President Biden that unless he convinces Israel to cease its fire, they will vote against him.
Worse, they are doxxing Debbie Dingell for coming out in support of the Israeli women who were raped, tortured and murdered.
“The very first week of this attack, I condemned the raping of women and said that no one could condone it, and Palestinian men went after me — called me a liar, demanded I retract it. I got doxxed over the subject,” Dingell said in an interview with CNN’s Kasie Hunt. “I have spent the last seven weeks researching the raping of women that has occurred in the Mideast. It is outrageous. I condemn it.”
Republicans have a problem too. The nation’s universities have been turned into factories of race hatred, where students are skilled in Critical Race Theory instead of critical thinking. Amid a rise in anti-Semitisn, it will be hard to combat the hatred of Jews unless conservatives also find a way to stop the hatred of whites.
