BULLETIN: A package of Skittles contains 45 grams of sugar, about 11 teaspoons. Lately, Mars Wrigley has been pandering to blacks and transgenders in its marketing, its latest package including the phrase: “black trans lives matter.” And this at a time when American blacks are three times more likely to have diabetes than whites.
BULLETIN: America consumes more medicine than any other country — about 75% of Big Pharma’s output — yet many people die from chronic diseases like diabetes. I’ve written before about how our medical and governmental institutions failed to use the pandemic to teach health by urging Americans to stop smoking. Instead, they closed gyms, mandated masks and effectively locked us out of fresh air & exercise.
BULLETIN: Cynical pols of both parties think the solution is to lower drug prices on “popular” meds. Of the 10 medications the White House is negotiating a price cut on, three are for diabetes. How about instead of medicating folks for diabetes, we cure them of it by limiting or even banning sugar? Oh wait, would that be fat-shaming?
Nearly a century ago, in 1931, Dr. Otto Warburg won a Nobel prize for his research on sugar and cancer cell metabolism. Now science knows more — cancer cells uptake glucose at 10-12 times the rate of normal healthy cells. Americans are now consuming over 100 lbs of sugar each year — each. With cancer a leading cause of death, Dr. Patrick Quillin, former nutritionist at Cancer Treatment Centers of America, says: “Trying to beat cancer while eating a diet that constantly raises blood glucose is like trying to put out a forest fire while somebody’s throwing gasoline on the trees.”
Q: What’s wrong with this picture? A: Big Pharma. Big Medicine. Woke Corporations. Inept Regulators. Uninformed Consumers. A Culture of Victimhood. All of the Above.
Some doctors, like Britain’s Aseem Malhorta, are saying out loud what many of us have suspected for a long time: “Modern medicine, through over prescription, is a major threat to public health.” Peter Gøtzsche, co–founder of the esteemed Cochrane Collaboration (recall their definitive study on the uselessness of masks to prevent or minimize COVID), estimates that prescribed medication is the third most common cause of death in the world after heart disease and cancer.
Cue the drug advertising. Have an itch? Take an RX. Oh, and btw, you may die.
As readers of Make Orwell Fiction Again will know, this year I lost my love Jeffrey Glazer to leukemia. His death was brutal — a successful bone marrow transplant followed by toxic anti-rejection medicines and crippling and inhumane medical protocols that sedated, dispirited and then killed him. The for-profit Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami cared more about piling him with drugs and restricting his freedom than curing him. To watch him die after treatment like that will haunt me forever.
After he passed, I vowed to avoid any hospitalizations that would strip me of my free will, or my dignity. There is a whole new genre of books & articles exploring the difference between medicine and health, between RX and wellness. Floating Feathers: A Doctor's Harrowing Experience as a Patient, argues that “sadly, in the current marketplace, increasing patient volume for the sake of profit is now what drives healthcare.” Dr. Russell Blaylock writes a column for Newsmax about the need to use nutrition instead of medications to cure what ails us. Another book, Livin’ Good, written by Dr. Blake Livingood after his father almost died from over-medication for heart issues, explores alternative options for his family — and the rest of us.
Basically it comes down to this. Medicine has in its toolbox testing, procedures & surgeries, and medications. On the other side of the ledger is wellness. In its toolbox: healthy eating, regular exercise, a few supplements (to build the immune system against COVID and other airborne illnesses, high doses of C, D and Zinc) and most of all — personal responsibility. Dr. Livingood’s number one rule is to eliminate sugar from the diet — and that is not an easy thing, as some form of sugar is in every processed food from salad dressing to coconut waters to frozen dinners. He suggests juicing in the mornings and an end to eating three hours before bed — a mild form of intermittent fasting to give the body’s digestive systems a chance to heal.
I was dubious at first, but decided to try it. It wasn’t easy. But after three weeks, I had lost weight and markers for chronic diseases were improving. My vision, a genetic concern, is good. Skin rashes have all but disappeared. My kidney filtration rate was up for the first time in years. I told my nephrologist (kidney specialist) that perhaps doctors should stop telling patients with drug-resistant high blood pressure to cut salt and instead tell them to cut sugar. He said nothing.
Meanwhile, to paraphrase Dwight D. Eisenhower, the Medical-Profit Complex keeps marching on. The other day I saw Panera Bread was “bringing back” fan-favorite, Cinnamon Crunch latte, to go along with a new ham, egg and cheese on a Cinnamon Crunch Bagel. Chief Food Innovation Officer Claes Petersson raved, “For years we've seen how much our guests love our Cinnamon Crunch Bagel, and it inspired us to create a sandwich with a sweet and savory combination that pairs perfectly with our Cinnamon Crunch Latte.” Sugar, carbs, cholesterol — what could be bad?
More grievously, the for-profit medical profession has backed the mutilation of young Americans with mastectomies and castration, hormones and puberty blockers, all in the name of transgendering the children. Let me be clear — if an adult wants to transition, bless him/her/them. But for hospitals and medical centers to make money off the natural confusion of teenagers — and for schools and parents to encourage sexual dysfunction — is a crime against God, nature, and society. Note that Britain and other civilized countries have backed away from these procedures. But here, the Teachers Union keeps stocking school libraries with unsavory sexual content too explicit to be read aloud in school board meetings and Kaiser Permanente is mandating staff training on “gender affirming care,” beginning with four-year-olds.
Then there are our tech masters, who filter the radical transgender agenda through their platforms. Google, the most evil of them all, now claims men can menstruate.
But without question, the most cynical, horrific and deadly weapon in the hands of our medical system is the mRNA vaccine. Already, because of the Pfizer and Moderna COVID vaccines, healthy, young men are dropping dead at an alarming rate. The mortality rate among Americans 0-24 years old is up 45%. Others have suffered life-crippling injuries from the vaccines. None of that will stop Big Pharma from salivating over the promise new drugs, based on the messenger RNA that delivers genetic information, prompting the host body's cells to produce the antigens. The mRNA formula is estimated to be a $300 billion market, so far.
Researchers at Yale University are working on a new airborne delivery system for mRNA vaccines. Critics fear the government will be able to vaccinate us through the air, or through our food, without our consent. Moderna & Germany’s BioNTech are researching what author Ted Anton calls “a programmable planet,” synthetic biology to make clothing, foods, fragrances, and fuels. Oh and cure global warming.
This aggressive push into New Age science comes as the regimes that ran the last pandemic are confessing mistakes, or claiming they never they said what we have on tape. Dr. Deborah Birx — you’ll remember the scarves and the charts — claimed in an interview on Fox News in July that “I knew these vaccines were not going to protect against infection, and I think we overplayed the vaccines.” Excuse me? You who sat on the White House’s COVID‑19 task force deliberately lied to the public to abet the government’s vaccine propaganda? (Have no fear, liberal “fact checkers” quickly came to her rescue, saying that her comments had been taking out of context.)
Thanks to a recent court case, we know that the CDC and FDA hid data that the vaccine not only was unsafe and ineffective but caused a spike in COVID cases among the vaccinated. And then there’s Dr. Anthony Fauci, the highest-paid retiree in federal government history, claiming now that while masks might protect an individual, they can’t stop a pandemic. I’m not a scientist but that hardly makes sense to me. Sen. Rand Paul is a doctor, and he was not pleased. “More subterfuge,” he said.
I am enjoying the anti-mask movement, a groundswell of Americans vowing to resist any government attempts to bring back what one critic called “those face diapers.” Another said he would not wear a mask again even if he died from COVID.
The great legacy of the pandemic is a distrust in authority, and a return to reliance on self. Here’s to individual responsibility in health. Toasting all with kale juice!
Here, here Johanna! I couldn't agree more! Sugar is a very dangerous drug. As Johanna points out, sugar is in almost all of our foods. It is difficult to maintain a diet without any sugar and the best one can hope for is a low sugar diet. Move away from sugar, bread, pasta and move instead to a diet based upon protein and fresh vegetables (Adkins for example). With my doctors blessing I also take basic quality supplements: Vitamin C, Vitamin D3, Krill oil and COQ-10. As you trim sugar, pasta, bread from your diet, you'll feel horrible for two or three days (out of focus, tired, irritable) but on the third or fourth day you will have shaken the sugar monkey off your back! You will have more energy and feel better than you have in years! But, beware, if you slip back into your sugar based diet you'll have the peaks and crashes that a sugar based diet causes. Thanks for bringing this topic to the forefront, Johanna!
Thank you Alexandra...and good idea on those sources I neglected to mention...Deep pockets indeed...
