President Biden has condemned the savage attacks on Israel that began last Friday. “It’s abhorrent,” he said Tuesday, noting that babies were beheaded, women were raped, parents were killed protecting their kids. “The brutality of Hamas,” said Biden, “brings to mind the worst rampages of ISIS. This is terrorism. But sadly, for the Jewish people, it’s not new.” Then he said something not often uttered from the White House during two terms of Barack Obama or one of Joe Biden:
“We stand with Israel. And we will make sure Israel has what it needs to take care of its citizens, defend itself and respond. There’s no justification for terrorism.”
Even as his speechwriters were drafting this glorious summons of support, Biden was asking Israel to arrange safe passage for Palestinian civilians out of Gaza. Safe passage for Palestinians — while the Israeli casualty toll has climbed to over 1,200 dead and 2,700 wounded? While Hamas has kidnapped at least 100 American citizens? While the greater Muslim activist world is calling for Jihad against Israel next Friday?
But I wonder, Mr. President, if Hamas is a den of terrorists, and if you’re on board with eradicating them, will you now stop hunting down MAGA Republicans as extremists, insurrectionists and terrorists who pose a risk to our democracy?
