When the Left comes for Abraham Lincoln, you know we’ve lost the country.
In a reboot of its animated series “Proud Family,” Disney, a major US corporation, has angry young children singing a rap song straight from the CRT playbook: reparations for descendants of slaves because of “systematic prejudice, racism and white supremacy that America was founded with and still has not atoned for.”
The song continues:
“We had Tubman, Turner, Frederick D. Then they say Lincoln freed the slaves, but slaves were men and women and only we can free ourselves. Emancipation is not freedom. Jim Crow, segregation, redlining, public schools feeding private prisons where we become slaves again.”
This incessant, radical drumbeat against our history is not only a denial of reality but an organized attack against the principles on which we were founded — equality, freedom of speech, the right to keep guns and pray to our own God, and liberty for all. Like the flood of migrants crashing our border, this is nothing less than an invasion.
To be sure, ours was an imperfect union, embedding slavery into our Constitution as a concession to the South. But an abolitionist movement rose up, fueled by men and women, both black and white, mostly in New England, who believed that slavery was a sin against both God and man. Decades later, after any number of inept and cowardly presidents punted the issue down the road, we went to war over slavery, states’ rights and westward expansion. The conflict was the costliest and deadliest war we ever fought, with some 620,000 killed, 2% of our population.
The war began with the election of Abraham Lincoln, when several Southern states, fearing his inclination to abolish slavery, seceded from the Union. He freed the slaves on January 1, 1863, in Executive Order 95. Throughout his presidency, Lincoln suffered mightily to free the slaves, and to hold the union together, and paid for it with his life. He was assassinated just after the war ended, a martyr to its cause. John Wilkes Booth made no secret of his motive. This assassin, the first in American history, supported slavery and was determined to stop Lincoln before Reconstruction could succeed. I’ve often wondered how our history would have changed if Lincoln had lived. I wonder if Jim Crow would have dared rear its ugly head.
But in Disney’s fantasy, the black and whites who fought on both sides died in vain. In this corporate menace to our children’s education, whites are guilty, now and forever.
Pushed by Black Lives Matter during the protests over George Floyd’s murder, this insipid ideology has seeped into our culture in small ways and large. Nicole Hannah-Jones, in conspiracy with the New York Times and public school teachers everywhere, is still promoting her 1619 Project, which re-frames the US as a nation founded on slavery, not principles of freedom. For a recent one-hour speech, Virginia’s Fairfax Public Library paid her $29,000 — of taxpayer dollars — to push her racist agenda.
The campaign for Diversity, Inclusion and Equity ignores the greater goal of Freedom, Happiness and Equality. Giving people an equal outcome is not the same as giving them a chance at earning it. There’s a saying, “Give a man a fish, and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime.” We have to again teach our children that they, not some DIE Committee, are in charge of their own destiny. And we have to reinvigorate our institutions — our military has been weakened from compulsory DIE training that cares more about pronouns than preparedness, leaving us with a Pentagon can’t count how many Chinese spy balloons are over our airspace.
The other day, a nine-year-old girl was assaulted on a school bus in Homestead, Florida. The assailants were black. She is white. Authorities arrested the chief perpetrator. A few days later a white man riding a bicycle was struck by a black man driving a Lexus. The collision sent Dr. Michael John Mammone flying through the air. After he landed, a neighbor saw Vanroy Evan Smith jump out of his Lexus and stab him to death, all while shouting “white privilege.” Smith was charged with murder.
But neither of these perpetrators has been charged with a hate crime. Our criminal justice system is weakened too, so now those only happen to people of color. Maybe Disney can explain that in its next assault on its own legacy. Walt Disney championed beautifully crafted children’s entertainment. Woke Disney pushes propaganda.
Great post. I reposted it to Twitter.
