At this weekend’s “Hands-Off” rallies, sponsored by 150 different NGOs, paid protesters made no mistake they loathe Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
I have no idea why these liberal activists are angry at DOGE for eliminating waste, fraud and abuse from our bloated federal bureaucracy, or firebombing Tesla dealerships in protest of Elon’s volunteer work, or calling for the death of a president who is resetting the global trade system because it disadvantages the US.
But that they are unhinged is apparent. Among their signs: “We are not okay, hands off the USA, 86-47.” This is code — 86 something means to kill it, 47 means Trump.
Ever since George Floyd’s death in 2020 and the resulting riots that burned cities and destroyed businesses across the country, far-left Democrats have turned our culture violent. In 2022, after politico.com published a leaked draft of a Supreme Court decision overturning the Roe v. Wade abortion decision, a presumably unhinged left-wing activist showed up at Brett Kavanaugh’s doorstep, armed to kill. And last year the Left glamorized the man charged with the cold-blooded murder of United Healthcare’s CEO. Now, radicals in California’s legislature are pushing the Luigi Mangione Access To Health Care Act, which honors the alleged assassin.
You will look in vain for national Democrat leaders calling out this violence.
The Network Contagion Research Institute, formed to “identify and forecast emerging threats in the era of information disorder,” has issued a report on how “viral social media narratives legitimized political violence.” In partnership with Rutgers U’s Social Perception Lab, the study finds a new “assassination culture … within segments of the extreme left.” But as The Federalist notced, “the rising violent rhetoric isn’t just coming from the fringe left, it’s being normalized by the left.” And it’s a majority — 55% of self-identified leftists say killing Trump is okay.
Republican Utah Sen. Mike Lee made the key point, posting on X: Pretty sure encouraging people to kill President Trump is a crime See 18 USC 871.
So where is the Justice Department? Where are the FBI agents, the Secret Service investigators, the swat teams that showed up at the homes of J6 defendants to rouse them out of bed at dawn, frighten their children and ruin their lives?
Deputy FBI Director Don Bongino — I’m a big fan — keeps posting not to lose patience, reminding us that Justice grinds slowly but that he and FBI Director Kash Patel are working methodically to clean out the rot and restore honor to the system. “Just because you don’t immediately see it, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.”
Many in MAGA nation are upset with US Attorney General Pam Bondi. She has been on Fox News more often, it seems, than in a courtroom. Yes, she has warned perpetrators of anti-Tesla actions, labeling the violent acts as “domestic terrorism.” Those charged could face up to 20 years in prison.
She has promised transparency. And that is a good thing.
But if there’s an urgency in her step, if she is convening meetings of FBI, Secret Service and Justice Department officials to slam shut the door to potential assassinations, then I’d like to know about it.
Time to send FBI agents to question those Americans holding the “8647” signs and wearing t-shirts that say “Is He Dead Yet?” Make it public, make it loud, make it bold. This is not about free speech. This is about normalizing violence.
These two men — Donald Trump and Elon Musk — have done more to right this nation than anyone since Abraham Lincoln. Time to protect them on every front.
