Abortion: To Be or Not to Be
It came out of nowhere. Or maybe you could say it came from heaven.
Nashville writing superstar Chris Wallen — who has topped the charts with classics sung by famous country artists, “Love Me If You Can” for Toby Keith, “People Loving People” for Garth Brooks, and “I’m Tryin’” for Trace Adkins — wrote a new song.
Called “I Was Gonna Be,” it is a story told through the voice of a fetus about to be killed. Wallen told Breitbart News he had no major commerical expections for the piece. “When I first started writing this song I didn’t think anyone would ever actually sing it. I wrote it because I thought something had to be said.” Then he met 18-year-old Rachel Holt, new to Nashville from Indiana, and played it for her.
“I’m singing that song,” she said.
“I Was Gonna Be” surged to the top 5 country music songs on iTunes.
The timing was no accident. This week marks two years since the Supreme Court ruled in Dobbs that Roe v. Wade — which embedded a right to abortion in federal law — was unconstitutional, sending it back to the states for local life or death decisions.
So pro-abortion forces have fanned out across the country to insist that aborting a baby is entirely a woman’s choice, even after birth. In at least 10 states, constitutional measures, most protecting abortion, will be on the ballot this November.
In Florida, the citizen initiative is so deceptively worded that if passed, it would allow abortions up to six months of pregnancy and, thanks to a loophole, even to the point of birth, without parental consent. If passed, “Florida would become the most pro-abortion state in the southern U.S.,” said Republican Party Chairman Evan Power.
Current research, via the NIH, suggests that fetuses can feel pain at 15 weeks, just before the four-month mark. after Dobbs, that is when some states limited abortions. At about six months (23-25 weeks) a fetus can survive outside the womb.
Pro-abortion activists argue that killing babies is the sole decision of a woman, that the state should place no limits on the timing, even if it means murdering a baby capable of life. Aborted fetal cells are often harvested for vaccines and drug development — meaning babies are kept alive during the extraction process so that their heart cells can be taken from a beating heart.
Those of us who disagree with these barbaric practices — whether we could accept a 15-week limit on abortions or want no abortions at all — will have to muscle up to lobby our fellow voters this November, arguing for life, not murder. The media megaphone — loud and angry — is against us, captured by Woke ideology.
And with a weaponized DOJ targeting and jailing elderly pro-lifers who pray for the unborn, one of the best ways might be to share the lyrics of “I Was Gonna Be.”
Some don’t believe I’m a living soul
Just a bad mistake that needs to go
If my mama coulda just seen my face
Maybe she woulda had me anyway
There are those who speak for me
Who fight for lives that they can’t see
But there are some who only mourn
This life of mine if I were born
All I wanted was a chance
To learn to love and laugh and dance
But I was gone before I arrived
Sent back to heaven on a starlight flight
Yeah I was gonna change the world
I was gonna be a girl
The first thing I was gonna do
Was breathe and fall in love with you
But a couple weeks before I saw the light
Mine flickered out when you changed your mind
All I wanted was a chance
To learn to love and laugh and dance
But I was gone before I arrived
Sent back to heaven on a starlight flight
I was gonna have some pretty curls
Yeah I was gonna be a girl
I’m more than just some one night stand
Or some burden that you think I am
And there ain’t no man ever gonna be
What I was gonna be
Some don’t believe I’m a living soul
Just a bad mistake that needs to go

Wow!! What lyrics. Trying to be as emotional as possible.
Why is our Florida initiative written not straight forward? So maddening.
What about the majority who are in favor of a reasonable abortion policy? Why does every issue become extreme?
Beautiful lyrics.....but, is it ok to be a boy?
Hey FL, welcome to he monkey house --CA Dems have been writing initiatives that are anything but straight forward for years. What appears to be a "Yes" vote is in reality a "No" vote and vice versa.....
